MOSH 101: Intro to Physical Computing

This class will introduce programming and physical computing (making electronic stuff in the real world do cool stuff). Students will use a computer language called "Scratch" to make simple programs that they can then download and run on their Circuit Playground Express (picture below). Circuit Playground Express is a single board computer designed to be relatively cheap while cramming in: a small speaker, a microphone, a thermometer, a tilt sensor, three buttons, ten programmable lights, and 8 touch sensors - whew! It can be programmed to create an endless number of uses, but is as easy to program - as simple as copying a file to a thumb drive.

This introductory class will focus on the structure of writing a computer program. Students will learn how to send signals between these controllers. They will be able to create a digital thermometer. They will be able to program their controllers to play music, respond to sound, and display custom light shows!

The class runs 14 weeks starting Tuesday January 14 and meets weekly until April 22nd (With a make-up week on April 29th and April 1st off for Spring Break).
